The Board of Regents of the American College of Tax Counsel (ACTC) has elected Procopio Partner Jorge Obén-Cuadros a Fellow of the College, one of twelve admitted this year. ACTC includes tax attorneys in private practice, law, business, and graduate school teaching positions, and government. Jorge represents multinational corporations, defense contractors, investment funds, high net worth individuals, and family offices, particularly from Latin America, Puerto Rico, and Europe, on complex U.S. and international matters.
Jorge and the others strengthen the college, ACTC President Ameek Ashok Ponda said. “As tax administration undergoes rapid change, these twelve individuals bring the needed experience, perspective, and judgment to strengthen our work and advance the College’s mission.”
ACTC includes tax attorneys in private practice, law, business, and graduate school teaching positions, and government. Election as a Fellow of the College is a selective process that recognizes experienced tax attorneys who have demonstrated exceptional professional achievement and integrity. Candidates must be nominated by a current Fellow and approved by the College’s Board of Regents and are distinguished by their ongoing or prior full-time legal work across a range of settings, as well as their commitment to excellence, ethics, and meaningful contributions to the tax law community through leadership, writing, or speaking.
Jorge advises clients on planning, controversy and litigation, and policy matters involving tax and trade. His practice focuses on inbound structuring into the United States, cross border planning, tariff exposure and mitigation, tax and trade litigation, and strategic guidance on tax and trade policy developments affecting global operations. Prior to joining Procopio, he served in the U.S. Internal Revenue Service Office of Associate Chief Counsel International and was detailed to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means. He is based in Procopio’s Washington, D.C., office.
Procopio’s International Tax attorneys advise businesses, investors, and individuals on international tax strategy, helping clients navigate the complexities of cross-border transactions, investments, and global operations. They support clients across the full lifecycle of international activity, from market entry and structuring through expansion and ongoing compliance.
